How many times can a girl hear, I think you re cute, but let s just be friends? Guys either think Jane Harris is Plain Jane or cute, and she never knows if by cute they mean cute like your little sister is cute or something else. Once people take the time to get to know her, they find out there are many layers to her. Jane is sarcastic, spunky, and a little bit on the obsessive side. She also makes you wonder how one person s hard wiring can be so messed up when it comes to relationships.

PLAIN JANE is a stream-of-consciousness novel and as such reads more like a diary than a fictional story. Because of this, the reader becomes privy to private thoughts and opinions of "Jane" along with conversations and events that occur during the formative years of her life, namely mid to late teens. Jane is an endearing character and her internal dialogue, though stilted at times, is for the most part charming. Her stories jump from one moment to the next, but it's written with a witty context which makes it extremely easy to follow and enjoyable to read. Though there are minor parts which appear predictable, the honest and sincere qualities of Jane not only make her likable but relatable, lending her story a sense of believability. This isn't the type of story I'm typically drawn to; however, I enjoyed it because it reminded me of my youth and the challenges we face to be seen, heard, and perhaps most importantly, loved in this world.Product details

My 17 year old daughter read this, and this is what she had to say
"This book was great! I hate reading, but I whizzed through this book. It is fantastic and shows a lot of the problems teenagers have to deal with. There were times in the book I could relate to the main character, I even cried through parts of it. I really liked the ending and wasn't at all expecting what happened. I highly recommend this book to any teenage girl having trouble with boys."
Plain Jane takes the reader through the day-to-day life of a girl in high school.
Jane thinks she will never attract a boyfriend because she is always the friend and never the girl to date. She is self-deprecating and never seems to believe in her own worth. It takes Jane a while to discover that boys look at her just as they do the other girls in school. The sweetness of her best friend, Chance, is seen throughout the story. You wish for him to sweep Jane away. Will she see him for more than a friend? Will Jane take herself seriously?
Jane's trip through high school and the people who inhabit her life make for an interesting read.
